Saint Ignatius Varsity Blue Wildcats Secure Rugby Victory Against Xavier

The Saint Ignatius Wildcats' Varsity Blue rugby team won convincingly over Xavier High School of New York when the two squads clashed at Penn State University on May 11. The weather was cold, but it didn't deter the fervor of the St. Ignatius team, delivering a statement 54-5 victory. The first half set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Wildcats dominated with an impressive 40-0 lead. The Ignatius 15 were firing on all cylinders offensively. Christian Ballasy and Mason Harley, who both bagged tries, with Ballasy scoring twice and Harley clinching a hat-trick. They were joined by Alex Werner, Matthew Wagenberg, and Trenton Latkovic in crossing the tryline. The conversions were executed with precision, Chris Haney converting six and Hayden Voth adding one of his own. Reflecting on the game, scrumhalf Harrison White said, "In the first half we played really well and showed consistent teamwork. Thanks to Xavier for making the trip to play us." This was part of a four-game day of rugby between St. Ignatius and Xavier, with the Varsity Gold, Varsity Blue, JV Blue, and Freshman teams all in action.
