St. Ignatius Wildcats Secure Win against Medina Bees in Freshman Rugby Match
The St. Ignatius High School Wildcats emerged triumphant in a riveting rugby encounter against the Medina High School Bees on March 13. Fought at Dukes Stadium, the game unfolded under sunny skies, the Wildcats defeating their opponents with a final score of 22-17 in the freshman-level non-conference clash. The Wildcats encountered an early setback, trailing by a narrow margin of 12-17 during halftime. However, with a strong show of determination and controlling field position well in the second half turned the game around in the second half, held Medina scoreless, and won. Try-scorers for the Wildcats were Danny Jouma, Carter Kangas, Ben Stefan, and Sean Sas. Kangas' interception and 80-meter race for the line was a pivotal moment in regaining momentum for the Wildcats. Coen Leucke added a conversion and also ran the attack with finesse, earning praise for his performance as the team's playmaker. The Wildcats' tenacity was further underscored by the relentless work ethic of No. 8 Quinn Farris and the crucial defensive role played by center Colin Betters, who made multiple key plays that turned the tide in their favor. Head Coach Alex Goff notably praised his team for their determination, stating, "Watching the boys adjust and fix some of their issues and fight back really made the coaches happy. We're proud of how hard they worked," encapsulating the spirit and effort that characterized the Wildcats' performance.
