Bats Quiet for Both Teams as SBEP Titans Lose To Western Hills Varsity Mustangs

Both teams were strong on the hill on Wednesday, but Western Hills Varsity Mustangs was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-1 victory over St. Bernard-Elmwood Place. Lucas Cannady started the game for the Titans and recorded four outs. Western Hills Varsity Mustangs opened the scoring in the first after John Farris singled, scoring one run. In the top of the third, Mason Creech doubled down the left field line, tying the game at one. Western Hills Varsity Mustangs jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the third inning. John Farris hit a sacrifice fly, and Peyton Schnitzler worked a bases-loaded walk. Chris Smith earned the win for Western Hills Varsity Mustangs. The righty gave up two hits and one run over four innings, striking out none and walking two. Aiden Rack pitched three and one-third innings in relief for the Titans. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs while, striking out one and walking three. Jason Helphinstine took the loss for the Titans. The right-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking one. Starting pitcher Lucas Cannady surrendered one hit and one run over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one. Peyton Schnitzler earned the save. Mason Creech went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Mason Stone, Keenan Derrenkamp, and Mason Creech each collected one hit for SBEP. Keenan Derrenkamp and Jason Helphinstine each stole multiple bases for the Titans, contributing greatly to the team's total of six. John Farris provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Western Hills Varsity Mustangs with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Robert Casey, John Farris, and Miles Pittman each collected one hit for Western Hills Varsity Mustangs. Western Hills Varsity Mustangs turned one double play in the game. The St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans will travel to Miami Valley Christian Academy for their next game on Thursday.
