St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans Secure Victories in Season Doubleheader Against North College Hill

The St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans faced off against the North College Hill Trojans in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9. The Titans won both games, taking the first with a score of 12–0 and the second 16–4. In game one, SBEP jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Lucas Cannady tripled, scoring two runs. Mason Creech and Keenan Derrenkamp both singled to bring in a pair of RBIs while Tony Stier brought in a fourth run with a sacrifice fly. The Titans continued to score in the bottom of the second inning. Lucas Cannady singled, scoring three runs. Mason Stone drew a bases-loaded walk to score an additional run while Keenan Derrenkamp and Tony Stier once again brought in two runs on two singles. Starting pitcher Logan Davis was awarded the win for SBEP's varsity Titans. The hurler gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking three. Davis threw an immaculate inning in the third, striking out the side on nine pitches. Logan Davis and Keenan Derrenkamp stole multiple bases, and the Titans tallied eight steals by the end of the game. In game two, SBEP jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Lucas Cannady brought in two runs with a single. Mason Stone hit another sacrifice fly, scoring an additional run. North College Hill made the score 4-3 in the bottom of the first after an error scored two runs. The Trojans took the lead after drawing a bases-loaded walk and getting hit by a pitch. The Titans flipped the game on its head in the top of the second, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Lucas Cannady that drove in two. SBEP scored five runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. Aiden Rack and Mason Stone both had singles that scored two RBIs each, and Amare Hicks was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. Lucas Cannady earned the win on the mound for the Titans. The starter gave up zero hits and four runs (zero earned) over one inning, striking out two and walking three. Mason Creech pitched three innings in relief, surrendering one hit and zero runs while striking out six and walking five. The Titans demonstrated impressive patience at the plate, collecting 12 walks for the game. Logan Davis, Tony Stier, and Jason Helphinstine led the team with two bases on balls each. Logan Davis, Lucas Cannady, Aiden Rack, Jason Helphinstein, DJ Moss, and Jah Neal each continued the team's aggressive night on the basepaths, and it resulted in 24 stolen bases for the game. Stealing bases has been a huge strength for SBEP this season, and the Titans created a lot of scoring opportunities for themselves in both games. St. Bernard-Elmwood Place has started the year with a 6-0 record, their best start to a baseball season since 2004. Be sure to keep an eye on this team as the year goes on!
