Comebacks & Photo Finishes Power Titans at CCD Invitational
St. Bernard-Elmwood Place’s Titans brought plenty of energy to the CCD Invitational on Saturday, April 11, delivering a meet full of podium finishes, relay drama, and strong early-season momentum.
The girls 4x200 relay team of Aaliyah Odoms, Dede Crawford, Nyasia Springs, and Cece Shepard gave the Titans one of the meet’s biggest moments. Shepard anchored the race and finished stride for stride with her opponent before edging out the win by less than a second for first place. The girls 4x100 relay also posted a strong result, taking second place behind another sharp effort from Odoms, Crawford and Shepard, joined in that event by Tariah Barnes. Those relay performances helped set an upbeat tone for a Titans squad that showed both speed and composure in key moments.
The boys 4x800 relay supplied another memorable surge. Dameko Taylor, Cashmir Carter, Jaiier Bastin, and Miguel Damian Bibian were credited with a third-place finish in the provided results, but the race still produced one of the day’s most exciting stretches. After receiving the baton, Bibian made up nearly 100 meters and charged past a competitor in a dramatic closing push that was decided by less than a second. It was the kind of effort that reflected the Titans’ competitive edge throughout the meet.
The Titans also picked up valuable points from more podium performances on the girls side. Dior Phelps-Patterson finished third in the 100-meter hurdles, and Aniyah Henderson earned third in shot put. Those results, paired with the relay success and Hicks’ double runner-up finish, gave SBEP a well-rounded day that featured contributions in sprints, hurdles, distance relays and throws.
The Titans’ success at the CCD Invitational was a full team effort. Every point mattered, and contributions came from athletes across all events—not just those on the podium. From stepping into new roles, competing tough in every race, and pushing for every place, the team showed strong effort and determination throughout the meet.
The girls team finished 6th overall with 50 points, while the boys team placed 5th with 49 points, showing how valuable every performance was. The Titans continue to build as a team, with everyone playing a role in the success.
