SBEP Titans Bounce Back With Two Wins Against Finneytown
The SBEP Titans recovered from losing their win streak in a big way on April 19 after winning both games of a doubleheader against the Finneytown Wildcats. Despite seeing their 6-run lead whittled down in game one, SBEP held on for an 8-7 victory. An error put the Finneytown Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the first, but the Titans reclaimed the lead in the top of the second. Logan Davis doubled to center field, and Aiden Rack drove in two runs with a single. A groundout by Keenan Derrenkamp extended the SBEP lead to 5-2 in the top of the third inning. Kendall Richard homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth for Finneytown. Keenan Derrenkamp earned the pitching win for the Titans. The starter surrendered four hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking five. Noah Anderson took the loss for Finneytown. The starter went three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking four. Tony Stier collected the save. SBEP piled up 13 hits in the game. Mason Creech provided pop in the middle of the lineup, going 2-4 and driving in three runs. Logan Davis, Lucas Cannady, and Aiden Rack also collected two hits in the game. Tony Stier led St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Varsity Titans with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. Keenan Derrenkamp and Aiden Rack each stole multiple bases for the Titans. SBEP accumulated six stolen bases for the game. SBEP took game two with a final score of 13-3. Jason Helphinstine put the Titans on the board in the top of the third with a bases-loaded walk. Finneytown responded with runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. A double by Dominick Schoff gave the Wildcats the lead, 2-1. SBEP took advantage of an error in the top of the fifth, scoring another run and tying the game. A groundout in the fifth by Alex Anderson gave Finneytown a 3-2 lead, but the Titans blew the game wide open in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 7-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Lucas Cannady that drove in three. The Titans scored six additional runs on two hits in the top of the seventh. Nathan Schulte singled in one run, Keenan Derrenkamp brought in two runs with a double, and three more runs were scored thanks to errors from the Wildcats. Aiden Rack earned the win for SBEP. The pitcher gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Daniel Mefford took the loss for Finneytown Varsity Wildcats. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering eight runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking three. The Titans collected nine hits in the game. Keenan Derrenkamp and Lucas Cannady each collected two hits and drove in two runs for the team. The Titans lineup showed impressive plate discipline, collecting nine walks. Logan Davis, Aiden Rack, and Jason Helphinstine led the team with two free passes each. Mason Stone, Nathan Schulte, Logan Davis, and Amare Hicks each stole multiple bases for the Titans, and SBEP ended game two with a whopping 17 stolen bases. Next up for for the Titans is a game against Norwood on Monday.
