Titans Battle but Lose Doubleheader Against Seven Hills

The St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Titans lost their winning streak in a doubleheader against Seven Hills on April 16. SBEP lost game one with a score of 8-2 and fell just short of a split in game two by losing 3-2. In game one, Seven Hills got on the board in the top of the first inning, and they added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after #5 doubled down the right field line, and #10 singled to right field, each scoring one run. They added an additional run in the third after #8 hit a sacrifice fly. #27 earned the win for Seven Hills. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking none. Lucas Cannady took the mound for the Titans. The hurler went four innings, surrendering five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Mason Stone and Nathan Schulte were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in both of SBEP's two runs. Jason Helphinstine had a good game at the plate, going 2-for-3 and stealing two bases. Despite the loss, the Titans displayed good defense. The Titans turned a double play in the game and didn't commit a single error. Nathan Schulte had the most chances in the field with four. In game two, SBEP stayed in it until the end. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when #5 hit a sacrifice fly, scoring what would be the winning run for Seven Hills. Both teams were strong on the mound. Seven Hills pitchers struck out 10, while SBEP sat down seven. The Titans got on the board in the third inning after Logan Davis drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring one run. Seven Hills captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third after #27 was struck by a pitch, and #15 singled down the right field line, each scoring one run. #5 balked, which helped the Titans tie the game at two in the top of the fifth. #3 earned the win for Seven Hills. The reliever gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out five and walking three. Logan Davis went six innings for the Titans, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking three. Nathan Schulte, Mason Creech, and Jason Helphinstine each collected one hit for SBEP. Logan Davis and Amare Hicks each stole multiple bases. The Titans ran wild on the base paths, piling up six stolen bases for the game. The Titans will be looking to get back into the win column in their next game against Hughes on Friday.
