CINCINNATI, Ohio - St. Bernard-Elmwood Place earned a 3-0 victory over Finneytown on Monday, Aug. 31, using a strong attack and quick defense to win a hard-fought varsity volleyball match 25-22, 25-13, 25-22. The Titans handled two close sets and controlled the middle set to complete the sweep over the Wildcats.
The opening set established the competitive tone. Finneytown kept the margin tight, but the Titans found enough offense at the net and made the necessary defensive plays to secure a 25-22 win. Senior Makayla Harris led the attack with nine kills in the match, giving St. Bernard-Elmwood Place a consistent finishing option as it worked through the Wildcats' resistance.
The Titans created their most decisive separation in the second set. Strong serving and steady distribution helped them pull away for a 25-13 victory and a commanding 2-0 match lead. Senior Tessa Jewell directed the offense with 13 assists and also delivered three aces, while junior Brie Morris recorded five aces to apply additional pressure from the service line.
Finneytown responded with another close challenge in the third set, but St. Bernard-Elmwood Place remained composed. The Titans combined their attack with quick reactions in the back row, then closed out another 25-22 set to finish the match in straight sets. Senior Joselynn Tenlinda anchored the defensive effort with 10 digs, helping extend rallies and creating more opportunities for the Titans' offense.
Junior Bella Potter added one of the match's most forceful defensive moments with a monster block. Her play at the net complemented the Titans' serving, setting and floor defense, giving the team contributions across each phase of the match. That balance proved especially important in the first and third sets, when the Wildcats stayed within three points at the finish.
The Titans face a quick turnaround with an away match against Cincinnati Country Day at 6 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sep. 1, 2026.
