Saints Place Second in Frosh-Soph Race, Put Four in Varsity Top 17 at Leavey Invite

The Saints placed second in the frosh-soph race and put all four varsity runners among the top 17 at the Leavey Invite Saturday, Sept. 5. The frosh-soph team scored 70 points, while Adley Wilson led the varsity group with a fifth-place finish in 17 minutes, 59 seconds.
The varsity quartet delivered a compact set of results against a field that included three ranked Class 3A teams. Wilson was followed by Nicole Mayer, who finished 10th in 18:53. Leah Sutherland took 15th in 19:11, and Lilli Margewich completed the group in 17th with a personal-record time of 19:15.
Although the Saints did not record a varsity team score because five finishers are required, the four-runner group stayed closely connected on the results sheet. Only 76 seconds separated Wilson from the Saints’ fourth finisher.
The frosh-soph lineup turned its pack running into a runner-up finish. With Claire Erickson helping lead the effort, Claire Erickson placed fifth and Ellie Johnston took 10th, giving the Saints two runners near the front of the race. Brynn McGrath followed in 18th, Amaya Saucedo placed 21st and Sadie Schmidt secured 24th.
That scoring five finished within a 19-place span, providing the balance needed to total 70 points. Erickson and Johnston established the Saints’ position with top-10 finishes, while McGrath, Saucedo and Schmidt kept the scoring group together through the middle of the field.
The Saints look to build off this momentum heading into another major invite next Saturday, September 12th at Lake Park.
