Aarnav Patel Fires 71 as Fighting Saints Compete in Tri-City Quad

Aarnav Patel shot a 1-under 71 and Ashton Glisson added a 4-over 75 to lead the St. Charles East Fighting Saints during the Tri-City Quad on Thursday, Aug. 27, in West Chicago, Illinois. The four-school event brought St. Charles East together with SCN, Batavia and Geneva for an afternoon of competition in a nontraditional format.

The golfers teed off at 1:30 p.m. under clear skies, with the temperature listed at 73 degrees and winds at 6 mph. Instead of using a standard team-scoring format, the event featured two-person best ball. Each golfer was paired with a player from another school, creating mixed-school teams and a collaborative setting while still allowing players to complete and track their own rounds.

Aarnav Patel delivered the Saints’ low individual score, breaking par with a 71. Ashton Glisson followed with a 75, giving St. Charles East two notable individual rounds. Their scores stood out even though the best-ball format placed the emphasis on each cross-school pairing rather than a traditional head-to-head team result.

A comparison using the conventional top-four scoring system showed how the schools would have finished in a standard team event. SCN produced the lowest hypothetical total at 292. Batavia and Geneva each totaled 303, while St. Charles East finished at 312. The Saints’ total placed them 20 strokes behind SCN and nine behind the matching totals from Batavia and Geneva.

Because the golfers were paired with competitors from other programs, the quad offered a different test from the usual school-versus-school match. Players had to manage their own rounds while contributing to a best-ball partnership with someone from another team. For St. Charles East, the strongest takeaways were the under-par performance from Aarnav Patel, the 75 from Ashton Glisson and a team benchmark that can be measured against three familiar area programs.
