Fighting Saints blank Downers Grove North behind Wulf, two home runs

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | Mar 28, 2026

St. Charles East rode power at the plate and a dominant outing in the circle to a 4-0 win over Downers Grove North on Friday, with home runs from Sujack and Maple providing the decisive swing in a crisp road victory.

The Fighting Saints got the kind of complete performance that travels well. Hannah Wulf kept Downers Grove North off the board all game, striking out nine and allowing just five hits. She controlled the tempo from the circle, worked out of trouble when needed and never let the home team build momentum.

At the plate, St. Charles East made its biggest moments count. Hayden Sujack and Brynn Maple each went deep, accounting for the Saints' most important offensive blows and helping the team create enough separation to stay in command. In a game where runs were at a premium, those extra-base swings gave the Saints exactly what they needed.

Just as important, the Fighting Saints backed Wulf with a clean defensive effort and steady play throughout the lineup. The combination of timely power, sharp pitching and dependable defense set the tone from the start and kept pressure on Downers Grove North for all seven innings.

The 4-0 result gave St. Charles East an encouraging early-season road win and another performance the program can celebrate. On a day defined by Wulf's nine-strikeout shutout and the home run swings from Sujack and Maple, the Fighting Saints looked every bit the confident, balanced club they aim to be this spring.
