Fighting Saints Boys So ccer Blank Oswego 4-0 Behind Complete Team Effort
The St. Charles East Fighting Saints opened the season in emphatic fashion Monday, earning a 4-0 victory over Oswego at St Charles East. Colin Harrington supplied the decisive moment at 3:45 of the first half, finishing a chance created by Alex Xotla to give the Saints an early lead they carried into halftime.
St. Charles East established its attack quickly. The early connection between Alex Xotla and Colin Harrington provided the only goal of the opening half, while the Saints’ defensive work kept Oswego off the scoreboard and protected the one-goal advantage.
The Fighting Saints broke the match open with three goals after halftime. Huxley Kapoor doubled the lead at 34:18 of the second half after an assist from Brendan Szerlong. St. Charles East continued applying pressure, and Sam Arville converted a penalty kick at 29:10 to make it 3-0.
Brendan Szerlong completed a productive all-around performance by scoring another penalty kick with 1:42 remaining. After assisting on the Saints’ second goal, Brendan Szerlong delivered the final strike of a balanced scoring effort that featured four different goal scorers.
At the other end, goalkeeper Jason Striegel played all 80 minutes and made four saves to secure the clean sheet. The shutout and four-goal attack moved St. Charles East to 1-0 overall, with conference play yet to begin.
