Fighting Saints Claim Second Straight IHSA Regional Title at Home, 4th in a Row Overall
St. Charles East’s Fighting Saints men’s wrestling team repeated as IHSA regional champions on Saturday at St. Charles East High School for the 4th time in a row, using a strong final round and six individual titles to hold off Glenbard West and secure a return trip to the sectional round.
Competing on their home mat, the Fighting Saints spent much of the day in a tight team race before overtaking Glenbard West late in the tournament. Once in front, St. Charles East protected its lead through the championship finals, converting key opportunities in the upper and middle weights to finish atop a deep regional field and clinch the program’s second consecutive IHSA regional crown on their home court and their 4th consecutive overall.
Six St. Charles East wrestlers finished the day as regional champions, a haul that proved decisive in the final team standings. Each title bout delivered crucial advancement and bonus-point potential, giving the Fighting Saints the separation they needed from Glenbard West in what had been a tense, possession-style battle on the scoreboard. DiFatta, Munaretto, Potter, L. Aye, Woodmancy, and C. Murray were all champions and underscored the roster depth and balance that carried the team to another postseason milestone.
As the final round unfolded, big wins helped stabilize the margin over Glenbard West, preventing any late swing in the standings. The Fighting Saints’ ability to place across multiple weight classes, rather than relying on just a few standouts, allowed the team to withstand pressure throughout the day and close out the regional on top.
The home setting added another layer to the accomplishment. With the regional hosted at St. Charles East, the Fighting Saints capitalized on familiar surroundings and local support to complete the title defense. The performance marked a continuation of the program’s long running success in IHSA postseason competition and reinforced the team’s reputation as one of the states most consistent contenders.
