Fighting Saints Convert for 22-21 Overtime Win Over Glenbard North

ST. CHARLES, Ill. - St. Charles East turned one final snap into a thrilling home victory Friday, powering into the end zone for a two-point conversion that secured a 22-21 overtime win over Glenbard North. The decisive play completed a determined response by The Saints after the Panthers scored first in overtime.

Playing under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 80 degrees, the Saints built a 14-7 advantage and protected it for most of the afternoon. The defense repeatedly kept Glenbard North from pulling even, while the offense did enough to maintain the seven-point cushion deep into regulation.

The Panthers finally broke through near the end of regulation, scoring the tying touchdown and conversion to make it 14-14. That late answer forced overtime and shifted the pressure to a St. Charles East team that had led for much of the game. Rather than allowing the late score to decide the outcome, the Saints regrouped for the extra session.

Glenbard North received the ball first in overtime and scored to take a 21-14 lead. St. Charles East then appeared to be stopped on fourth down, but a Panthers penalty extended the possession and gave the Saints another chance. They capitalized by driving the ball into the end zone, trimming the deficit to 21-20. Another penalty during the extra-point sequence opened the door for a two-point attempt, and the Saints chose to play for the win.

On the final play, St. Charles East pounded the ball across the goal line and set off the celebration with a 22-21 victory. The comeback improved The Saints to 3-1 and placed them in a strong early position in the playoff race. St. Charles East will go back on the road for its next game, traveling to Wheaton North for a 7 p.m. kickoff Sept. 18.
