Fighting Saints Cruise Past West Chicago, Advance to Regional Final as Schilb Hits 1,000-Point Milestone

St. Charles East made quick work of its IHSA Regional Semifinal matchup Tuesday night, rolling to a 55-28 win over West Chicago to advance to Thursday’s regional championship game on its home floor. The Fighting Saints used a dominant first-half surge to seize control and never allowed the Wildcats to threaten after halftime.
The decisive stretch came in the opening two quarters, as the Fighting Saints’ pressure defense and transition offense built a double-digit advantage that West Chicago could not erase. St. Charles East repeatedly turned stops into quick scores, turning defensive rebounds and steals into layups and rhythm jumpers. By the time the teams headed to the locker room, the Saints had established a comfortable margin and firm control of the tempo.
While the victory kept the Saints’ postseason run alive, the night also carried individual significance. Senior guard Addison Schilb reached 1,000 career points in the win, becoming the latest St. Charles East standout to hit the milestone. Schilb’s scoring presence helped fuel the early separation, and her milestone basket drew a brief pause as teammates and coaches acknowledged the achievement before turning full attention back to closing out the regional semifinal.
Defensively, the Fighting Saints set the tone from the opening tip, holding West Chicago in single digits in multiple quarters and limiting clean looks in the half court. Active hands on the perimeter disrupted passing lanes, and disciplined rotations inside forced the Wildcats into contested attempts late in the shot clock. West Chicago struggled to find any sustained rhythm, and St. Charles East used that to create extended runs that widened the gap in the second and third quarters.
On the other end, the Saints balanced their attack, mixing drives to the rim with kick-out opportunities to keep West Chicago’s defense guessing. Timely scoring out of timeouts and end-of-quarter execution allowed St. Charles East to maintain momentum whenever the Wildcats appeared poised to respond. The Saints closed the third quarter with another burst, effectively putting the game out of reach and allowing them to manage the fourth quarter with poise.
With the win, St. Charles East moves into Thursday’s IHSA Regional Championship at St. Charles East High School, where the Fighting Saints will face the winner of the Batavia vs. DeKalb semifinal. Riding an 18-12 regular season, an 11-3 DuKane Conference mark, and now a convincing postseason opener, the Saints enter the title game with confidence, a milestone scorer in Schilb, and a defense that has proven capable of carrying them deeper into the state tournament.
