South Elgin and Lakes Competitions

St. Charles East High School’s Fighting Saints varsity dance team turned in a breakout weekend on the competition floor, earning a runner-up finish Saturday at South Elgin before capturing first place Sunday at the Lakes Competition.

Competing in back-to-back events, the Saints used Saturday’s second-place performance at South Elgin as a springboard into their strongest outing of the season. The group delivered a sharp, synchronized routine that emphasized precision footwork and clean formations, establishing itself near the top of a crowded field and setting a tone for the rest of the weekend.

On Sunday at Lakes, the Fighting Saints elevated the difficulty of their choreography, tightening transitions and showcasing more intricate turn sequences and featured skills. Judges rewarded the team’s execution and musicality, as the Saints maintained timing through complex formation changes and highlighted sections built around synchronized leaps and turns. The performance earned them the top spot and marked a significant step forward for the program.

We are so excited to battle for conference this week!

Throughout the two-day stretch, the team’s performance quality drew strong responses from spectators. Crowd engagement was especially evident during the routine’s high-energy peaks, including a closing sequence that blended fast-paced footwork with coordinated levels and visual effects across the formation. The athletes maintained performance intensity from the opening counts through the final pose, helping separate their routines from other competitors.

The consecutive podium finishes at South Elgin and Lakes underscored the Saints’ consistency under pressure and their ability to adjust quickly between competitions. Saturday’s near-miss at a title provided immediate feedback, and the team responded by tightening details and increasing confidence on Sunday, converting that growth into a first-place result.

With the successful weekend behind them, St. Charles East now turns its focus to the DuKane Conference Championship. The Fighting Saints are scheduled to travel to Batavia on Wednesday, Jan. 14, aiming to build on their second- and first-place finishes and carry their rising momentum into one of the key meets of their season.
