Fighting Saints Dominate Maine South 75-0 to Capture IHSA Team Sectional

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | Feb 6, 2026

St. Charles East made quick and emphatic work of its state-berth opportunity, rolling to a 75-0 shutout of Maine South in the IHSA Team Sectional on Friday at Oak Park and River Forest High School. With the lopsided victory, the Fighting Saints advanced to the IHSA Team State quarterfinals in Champaign.

The sectional result continued the momentum from St. Charles East’s regional title run, as the Saints carried their depth and bonus-point mentality into the dual. Every weight class went the Saints’ way against Maine South, producing the rare postseason sweep on the team score sheet. The 75-0 margin underscored both the efficiency of the Saints’ offense on their feet and the control they maintained on top throughout the dual.

St. Charles East seized control early in the lower weights, using a combination of pins and technical falls to build a commanding lead that effectively decided the dual before the midpoint. Quick falls set the tone as the Saints capitalized on early takedowns, turning them into near-fall points and ultimately securing pins that built an insurmountable cushion. Each early win piled pressure onto Maine South’s lineup, forcing the Hawks into must-win situations that never materialized.

In the middle weights, the Saints continued to press for bonus points rather than settling for decisions. Dominant rides, repeated tilts and strong mat awareness allowed St. Charles East to convert narrow leads into major decisions and technical falls, stretching the advantage on the team scoreboard. The Saints’ wrestlers consistently finished periods on top, closing out periods with near-fall counts that kept Maine South from building any momentum.

The upper weights sealed the shutout, as St. Charles East closed the dual with more aggressive efforts that preserved the zero on Maine South’s side. Heavyweight and late upper-weight bouts often decide tight postseason duals, but in this sectional, they served to punctuate the Saints’ complete performance. Maine South’s attempts to salvage the final bouts were met with sturdy defense and strong positioning, preventing any late upsets or forfeited points.

With the 75-0 victory, St. Charles East advanced out of the sectional round for a chance to compete among the final eight teams in Champaign. Coming off back-to-back postseason successes, including a home regional title, the Saints head to the IHSA Team State quarterfinals with confidence and a demonstrated ability to generate bonus points across the lineup. The sectional shutout sets a high standard as the program turns its focus to state-level competition.
