Fighting Saints Edge Boylan 1-0 in Season Opener

St. Charles East opened its season with a 1-0 home victory over Rockford Boylan on Thursday night, securing the winner midway through the second half to cap a disciplined performance at Norris Stadium.

The decisive moment came with 22:35 remaining in the second half, when Mya Leon broke the deadlock for the Fighting Saints. Leon finished off a well-worked attack after connecting on a feed from Lilli Margewich, giving St. Charles East a 1-0 lead that held the rest of the way. The goal was the only scoring in a match that was otherwise defined by organized defending and limited chances for both sides.

After a scoreless first half that ended 0-0, St. Charles East increased its attacking pressure following the break. The Saints pushed numbers forward and were rewarded when Margewich created space in the final third and slipped a pass into Leon, who converted what proved to be the match-winner. Boylan worked to respond but was unable to find an equalizer against a compact Saints back line.
