Fighting Saints erupt for six first-half goals in shortened Plainfield Invitational win

St. Charles East needed only one half to put this one away. The Fighting Saints scored six times in the opening 25 minutes and rolled to a 6-0 win over Glenbard East on Monday in Plainfield Invitational Game 2, with the match called at halftime after a relentless first-half surge.

Mya Leon set the tone early and never let it slip. Leon opened the scoring at 38:50 off an assist from Qori Strotkamp, then struck again at 31:05 on a setup from Georggia Desario. She added another assist on Lilli Margewich’s goal at 29:50 before finding the net again at 27:59, once more with help from Strotkamp. By then, the Saints had full control and were turning nearly every dangerous chance into a finish.

Sophia Wollenberg helped turn the strong start into a runaway. She scored at 25:44 and again at 14:49, with Averie Foulkes assisting on both goals. That combination gave St. Charles East even more punch in the attack and capped a dominant half in which the Saints spread the ball well, finished cleanly and kept constant pressure on Glenbard East’s back line.

The defensive side was just as sharp, even without facing much resistance. Goalkeeper Mia Olenek was credited with 0 saves and 0 goals against as the Saints kept Glenbard East from generating any breakthrough moments. St. Charles East’s shape, possession and quick ball movement made it a complete team performance from start to finish.

The result pushed the Fighting Saints to 9-0-3 overall and added another emphatic showing to an already impressive stretch. With Leon involved in four goals, Wollenberg finishing twice and multiple players contributing assists, St. Charles East once again showed the depth and firepower that has made this group one of the area’s most dangerous teams.
