Fighting Saints Girls Golf Defeat Wheaton South 171-182 Behind Emily Geurts’ 38

The St. Charles East girls golf team delivered a balanced winning performance Thursday, defeating Wheaton South 171-182 in Wheaton. Emily Geurts led the Fighting Saints with a match-low 38, setting the pace for an 11-stroke victory over the Tigers.

Geurts’ round gave St. Charles East a strong score at the top of the lineup, and the Saints backed it up with three steady counting rounds. Paula Ramirez finished with a 43, Avery Szuch followed with a 44 and Ella Lester completed the team total with a 46.

The Saints’ four counting scores averaged 42.75, with only eight strokes separating the group. That consistency proved decisive against Wheaton South, as Ramirez, Szuch and Lester finished within three strokes of one another. Their combined effort gave St. Charles East the depth it needed to build a comfortable margin.

Geurts’ 38 stood out as the day’s low round and put the Saints in an excellent position. Ramirez and Szuch then kept the team total moving in the right direction with back-to-back scores in the low 40s, while Lester’s 46 secured the fourth counting score and finalized the winning 171.

The match was played under clear skies with a temperature of 72 degrees and light wind at 5 mph, offering favorable conditions for the varsity competition. St. Charles East made the most of the setting, combining a standout round from Geurts with reliable scoring throughout its top four to earn another result the Fighting Saints community can celebrate.
