Fighting Saints Girls Golf Finish Fourth at Regional, Advance Three to Sectionals
SAINT CHARLES, Ill. - St Charles East High School finished fourth with a team total of 372 at the IHSA Regional on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Elk Grove Village, narrowly missing team advancement. Emily Geurts led the Fighting Saints with an 81 and a fourth-place individual finish as three Saints qualified for the sectional round.
The Saints played well on a difficult regional course that featured several challenging holes. Their combined score left them just short of moving on as a team, but the individual results gave the program three qualifiers for the next round. Avery Szuch and Ella Lester joined Geurts in earning sectional berths.
Geurts' 81 was the Saints' lowest score and secured a place among the regional's top finishers. The fourth-place performance anchored the team's total on a day when navigating the demanding course was central to the competition.
The regional began at 8:30 a.m. with mainly clear skies and a temperature of 59 degrees. Winds were 6 mph at the start. Against that backdrop, the Saints completed a round that produced both a fourth-place team result and three individual advances.
Although the Saints' team run ended at the regional, their representation in the postseason continued through the individual qualifying route. Szuch shot a 95 to earn a sectional berth, while Lester qualified with a 97.
