Fighting Saints Girls Golf Take Fourth at DuKane Conference Meet Behind Geurts' 84
St Charles East earned a fourth-place finish at the DuKane Conference Meet on Tuesday, combining four counting scores for a team total of 358 over 18 holes in Aurora. Emily Geurts led the Fighting Saints with a team-low 84, setting the pace for a balanced varsity lineup.
Paula Ramirez followed with an 89, giving St Charles East a second score below 90. Avery Szuch finished one stroke behind Ramirez with a 90, while Ella Lester completed the Saints' scoring quartet with a 95. Together, the four golfers accounted for every stroke in the team's 358 total.
Geurts' 84 provided the Saints with their strongest individual round of the conference meet. Ramirez and Szuch were separated by only one shot, helping keep the team total steady through the middle of the scorecard. Lester's round secured the fourth counting score needed to place St Charles East among the top four teams in the conference field.
The competition began at 9 a.m. with mainly clear skies and a temperature of 58 degrees. Winds of 14 mph added another element for the golfers to manage throughout the 18-hole round, placing a premium on controlled shots and sound decisions across the course.
With all four counting scores at 95 or better and an 11-stroke spread from first scorer to fourth, the Fighting Saints delivered a complete team performance on the conference stage. The fourth-place finish gave St Charles East a strong result, highlighted by Geurts' 84 and the closely grouped rounds from Ramirez, Szuch and Lester.
