The deepest postseason run in program history came to an end Tuesday night, as St. Charles East’s Fighting Saints girls basketball team fell 56-34 to state No. 1 Loyola in the IHSA Super-Sectional at Northwest Suburbs in Hoffman Estates. The Saints delivered an inspired start, racing out to a 7-0 lead and battling within a point of the powerhouse Ramblers by halftime before Loyola’s hot shooting in the second half proved decisive.

From the opening tip, the Saints showed they were not intimidated by the state’s top-ranked team. Crisp ball movement and confident perimeter play fueled the early 7-0 burst, forcing Loyola to burn a timeout and energizing the St. Charles East crowd. The Fighting Saints matched the Ramblers’ intensity throughout the first half, trading stops and scores to stay within a single point at the break and sending a clear message that they belonged on the Super-Sectional stage.

The turning point came after halftime, when Loyola’s offense caught fire. The Ramblers strung together multiple scoring runs, knocking down shots from all over the floor and gradually creating separation on the scoreboard. While the Saints continued to compete on the defensive end, contesting jumpers and battling on the glass, Loyola’s efficiency out of the locker room shifted the momentum and ultimately put the game out of reach in the third and fourth quarters.

Offensively, the Fighting Saints were paced by familiar leaders. Senior Addison Schilb finished her career with a team-high 13 points, bombing 3's and finding ways to score against Loyola’s length. Sophomore sharpshooter Brooklyn Schilb added 11 points, continuing the strong postseason play that had helped carry St. Charles East through regional and sectional titles. Together, the Schilb duo accounted for more than two-thirds of the Saints’ offense and set the tone with their poise against elite competition.

The loss does little to dim what has been a remarkable season for St. Charles East. The Saints close the year 22-12, a record built on resilience and growth as they navigated a challenging DuKane Conference slate and a demanding playoff path. Along the way, the team captured an IHSA Regional Championship, then followed it with a memorable Sectional title, highlighted by Brooklyn Schilb’s 32-point explosion in the sectional final and multiple games defined by gritty, lock-down team defense.

This postseason run also featured milestone moments that will be remembered at St. Charles East for years to come. Both Addison and Brooklyn reached the 1,000-point mark during the playoff push, underscoring not only their individual talent but also the consistency and dedication they have shown throughout their careers. Their leadership, alongside key contributions from teammates and staff, elevated the program to new heights and showcased what is possible when a group fully commits to one another.

As the Saints look ahead, there is plenty of reason for optimism and pride. The experience of going toe-to-toe with the state’s top-ranked team on a Super-Sectional stage will only strengthen the returning players, while this year’s seniors leave a legacy of toughness, togetherness, and championship standards. Though the night ended in defeat, the 2025-26 Fighting Saints will be remembered for bringing St. Charles East girls basketball into the state spotlight and giving their school and community a thrilling ride into March Madness.
