Fighting Saints open season with straight-set win over Metea Valley

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | Mar 25, 2026

St. Charles East opened its season with a 2-0 victory over Metea Valley on Tuesday night, taking both sets 25-19 at home. The Fighting Saints started the spring with a confident performance, controlling the match from the outset and giving the home crowd plenty to cheer about.

The Saints set the tone early in the opener and stayed steady through the key stretches of both sets. Each game finished with the same 25-19 margin, a sign of how consistently St. Charles East handled the pressure points. While detailed individual statistics were not available, the Saints were able to string together the kinds of winning rallies that turned momentum in their favor and kept Metea Valley from mounting a late comeback.

It was an especially encouraging night for the program because the varsity result was part of a full sweep. All four Saints volleyball levels earned victories, adding even more energy to the season opener. That kind of across-the-board success gave Tuesday's result the feel of a strong opening statement for St. Charles East volleyball.

For the varsity group, the straight-set result offered a solid foundation heading into the next challenge. The Saints showed balance, composure, and the ability to finish sets cleanly, all welcome signs this early in the season. Opening night always brings a little extra anticipation, and St. Charles East answered it with a polished performance against the Mustangs.

Next up, the Saints will take that momentum on the road Saturday when they travel to the Oswego Invite at Oswego High School.
