Fighting Saints ride Wulf’s 14-strikeout gem past WWS Tigers, 5-1

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | Apr 29, 2026

St. Charles East leaned on a dominant outing in the circle Tuesday night, and the Fighting Saints turned it into another strong conference result with a 5-1 win over WWS Tigers at home. The decisive edge came from Hannah Wulf, who worked all seven innings and piled up 14 strikeouts, setting the tone from the start and never letting the Tigers build sustained momentum.

Wulf’s complete-game performance was the centerpiece of the night. She limited WWS to a single run over seven innings while repeatedly ending threats herself, and her strikeout total underscored just how sharp she was. For a Fighting Saints team that has built its spring around steady pitching and timely offense, Tuesday’s effort fit that formula again.

At the plate, LaRose led the offense with two hits and helped keep pressure on the Tigers throughout the game. St. Charles East did not need a huge outburst, just a series of productive trips that turned opportunities into runs and gave Wulf room to attack. The Saints finished with five runs and controlled the game with a blend of contact, patience and clean execution.

Wulf’s swing-and-miss stuff prevented the Tigers from generating a comeback, and the Saints’ offense answered often enough to keep the home side comfortably in front. It was another example of the kind of balanced softball St. Charles East has shown during a successful stretch of the season.

The victory adds to a strong recent run for the Fighting Saints, who have continued to get contributions up and down the lineup while receiving standout work from the circle. Tuesday’s 5-1 win over WWS Tigers gave St. Charles East another confidence-building result, and the turnaround will be quick. The Saints are scheduled to face Glenbard North at home Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
