Fighting Saints roll past Lake Park 7-0 behind five-goal night from Mya Leon

St. Charles East wasted little time taking control Wednesday night, and once Mya Leon found the net for the first time, the Fighting Saints never let up in a 7-0 road win over Lake Park in Roselle. Leon delivered the decisive punch all evening, scoring five goals as St. Charles East turned a 2-0 halftime lead into a runaway second-half performance.

The Saints struck first at 13:40 of the first half when Leon finished off a setup from Tatum Smith. Just over a minute later, Leon scored again at 1:05 with Qori Strotkamp earning the assist, giving St. Charles East a firm early edge. Even with light rain showers and breezy conditions, the Saints looked sharp and composed, controlling the run of play and keeping Lake Park from building any momentum.

The attack opened up even more after halftime. Sophia Wollenberg started the second-half scoring at 29:03, then Leon added her third goal of the night at 26:11 off an assist from Lilli Margewich. Leon completed another finish at 19:06 with Wollenberg assisting, Reese Kyle joined the scoring at 17:33 on a ball from Strotkamp, and Leon capped the outburst with her fifth goal at 12:11, again assisted by Margewich.

The distribution was just as impressive as the finishing. Strotkamp collected two assists, Margewich added two more, and Wollenberg, Smith and the rest of the Saints' attack helped keep pressure on Lake Park throughout both halves. It was the kind of balanced, unselfish offensive display that has helped St. Charles East build one of its strongest stretches of the season.

On the defensive side, goalkeeper Mia Olenek played 74 minutes and preserved the shutout. She was not called on to make a save, a credit to the Saints' back line and the team's possession control in front of her. The result pushed St. Charles East to 12-0-4 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play, another confident step forward for a Fighting Saints group that continues to pile up impressive performances.
