Fighting Saints Soccer Blank Bolingbrook 2-0 in Group-Play Opener
St. Charles East struck twice in the first half and protected the advantage with a complete defensive performance, defeating Bolingbrook 2-0 in the opening group-play match Saturday at St. Charles. Colin Harrington delivered the decisive goal at the 34:19 mark, converting a setup from Jack Fitzgerald to put the Fighting Saints ahead for good.
The Saints continued to press for another breakthrough and doubled their lead before halftime. At the 7:08 mark of the first half, Huxley Kapoor finished a chance created by Theo Jakobsen, giving St. Charles East a commanding 2-0 cushion. Both goals reflected the Saints’ ability to connect passes in the attacking third and turn opportunities into an early advantage.
With the offense providing support, St. Charles East’s defense took care of the rest. The Saints kept Bolingbrook off the scoreboard throughout the second half, maintaining their shape and limiting the Raiders’ chances to mount a comeback. The collective effort preserved the two-goal margin through the full 80 minutes.
Goalkeeper Jason Striegel anchored the shutout, playing all 80 minutes and making four saves without conceding a goal. Each stop helped steady the Saints and completed a balanced performance in which the attack produced timely goals and the defense protected them. The clean sheet was a fitting finish to Game One of group play at Downers Grove.
The victory moved St. Charles East to 3-0-0 overall while the Saints remained 0-0-0 in conference play. The team will next host Hersey on Tuesday, Sep. 1, 2026, at 7 p.m. carrying an unbeaten record and another encouraging all-around performance into the matchup.
