Fighting Saints Soccer blank Geneva 3-0, clinch DuKane title in style

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | May 15, 2026

St. Charles East closed another memorable regular-season step with authority Thursday night, beating Geneva 3-0 on the road behind a sharp attacking finish and a clean sheet from goalkeeper Mia Olenek. The win pushed the Fighting Saints to 18-0-5 overall and 5-0-2 in DuKane Conference play, sealing the 2026 DuKane Conference championship.

The decisive tone arrived in the first half, when Anika Dodrill opened the scoring at 24:50 off an assist from Mya Leon. That breakthrough gave St. Charles East a 1-0 halftime edge and rewarded a strong opening stretch from the Saints, who turned possession into the match's first big finish against a Geneva side playing at home.

St. Charles East created separation after the break. Sophie Wallenberg converted a penalty kick at 35:35 of the second half to double the lead, then helped finish the night in style with an assist on Mya Leon's goal at 11:27. Leon's all-around impact showed up in both phases of the attack, setting up the first goal and later adding one of her own as the Saints put together the kind of composed offensive performance that has defined the season.

At the back, Olenek made sure the early lead stood. The Fighting Saints keeper played all 80 minutes, recorded five saves and did not allow a goal. Her steady work anchored the shutout and highlighted a defensive effort that stayed organized throughout both halves, even as Geneva looked for a way back into the match.

With Dodrill, Wallenberg and Leon all directly involved in the scoring, and Olenek closing the door in goal, the Fighting Saints once again showed their balance across the field. Thursday's result was more than another win, it was a championship performance on a rival field and another confident statement from a St. Charles East team that keeps finding ways to raise the standard.
