Fighting Saints Soccer Blank St. Charles North 3-0 on Tri-Cities Night
ST. CHARLES, Ill. - Brendan Szerlong opened the scoring and helped create another first-half goal as St. Charles East defeated St. Charles North 3-0 on Tri-Cities Night. The Fighting Saints scored twice before halftime, added a penalty kick in the second half and completed the conference shutout behind goalkeeper Jason Striegel.
Szerlong delivered the decisive breakthrough with 26:30 showing in the first half, finishing an opportunity set up by Huxley Kapoor. The goal gave St. Charles East an early advantage and rewarded the Fighting Saints for their attacking work in clear, 84-degree conditions.
The lead grew to 2-0 with 9:15 remaining before halftime. This time, Szerlong became the provider, assisting Aidan Richbell for the Fighting Saints’ second goal. The combination gave St. Charles East firm control of the match heading into the break and highlighted a balanced attack featuring multiple contributors.
Sam Arville supplied the final goal from the penalty spot with 16:16 showing in the second half, extending the margin to 3-0. At the other end, Striegel completed all 80 minutes in goal, made one save and kept St. Charles North off the scoreboard. The clean sheet reflected a composed effort across the field as the Fighting Saints protected their advantage through the final whistle.
The victory improved St. Charles East to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play, adding another proud result to a strong season.
