Fighting Saints Soccer close remarkable season in Sectional final against Wheaton Warrenville South

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | May 30, 2026

St. Charles East saw its postseason run come to an end Friday night, falling 2-0 to Wheaton Warrenville South in the sectional final at Norris Stadium. After a scoreless first half, the Tigers broke through with two second-half goals to decide a tightly contested match.

The Fighting Saints matched Wheaton Warrenville South for much of the opening 40 minutes and kept the match level at 0-0 into halftime. That defensive resolve gave St. Charles East a chance deep into the night, but the Tigers found the breakthrough at 21:21 of the second half and added an insurance goal with 9:03 remaining.

Goalkeeper Mia Olenek turned in one of the strongest individual efforts of the night for St. Charles East. Olenek played all 80 minutes and recorded eight saves while facing constant pressure, repeatedly keeping the Fighting Saints within striking distance and giving the team opportunities to respond.

Even in defeat, the match reflected the resilience that defined St. Charles East throughout the season. The Fighting Saints finished 20-1-5 overall and 5-0-2 in DuKane Conference play, a year that also included a 2026 DuKane Conference championship and a St. Charles East regional title.

The final score ended the postseason journey one step short of the next round, but it did not diminish what this group accomplished. A sectional final appearance, a conference championship, a regional crown, and a 20-win season gave the Fighting Saints plenty to celebrate after another standout year.
