Fighting Saints Softball close regular season with 13-0 win over Schaumburg

St. Charles East wrapped up the regular season in emphatic fashion Saturday morning, rolling to a 13-0 softball win over Schaumburg and finishing 27-8 heading into the postseason. The Fighting Saints set the tone early and kept adding on, backing a combined shutout in a strong all-around performance.

The biggest offensive spark came from Sujack, who went 3 for 3, homered and drove in four runs. It was the kind of complete day the Saints were looking for at the end of the regular season, with traffic on the bases, extra-base pop and steady pressure throughout the lineup. Higgins, Van Dinther and Beers also turned in multi-hit games, giving St. Charles East production up and down the order.

In the circle, Wulf and Van Dinther split the pitching duties and combined to keep Schaumburg off the scoreboard. The Saints controlled the game from there, pairing that work with clean defense and timely hitting. Even in challenging conditions, with thunderstorms in the area and windy weather at Schaumburg, St. Charles East stayed sharp and focused.

The result gave the Fighting Saints a confident finish to the regular season and another reminder of the balance that can make the team dangerous in May. The offense produced in bunches, the pitching staff delivered a shutout, and several players found rhythm at the plate just before regional play begins.

Next up for St. Charles East is the regional opener Tuesday at home against the winner of Lake Park and Addison Trail, with first pitch scheduled for 4 or 4:30 p.m. After closing the regular season with a decisive win, the Fighting Saints carry plenty of momentum into the postseason.
