St. Charles East’s Fighting Saints women’s wrestling team earned a split in a home girls varsity tri on Tuesday at the St. Charles East Main Gym, defeating cross-river rival St. Charles North 42-12 before falling to Batavia 54-18.

The Saints’ win over St. Charles North was decisive, as St. Charles East controlled the dual from start to finish. The 42-12 margin reflected a combination of bonus-point victories and strong efforts up and down the lineup. St. Charles East built an early lead and never allowed the North Stars to gain momentum, using aggressive attacks and solid defense to close out key bouts.

In the matchup against St. Charles North, the Saints capitalized on opportunities to secure team points through a mix of falls, technical superiority and decision victories. The wrestlers maintained pressure in neutral and on top, turning early takedowns into near-fall points and ultimately pulling away on the team scoreboard. The performance highlighted the depth of the Saints’ lineup and the team’s preparation for conference and postseason competition.

Great to see the Girls Wrestling program highlighted on their own night in our gym. Great atmosphere!

Against Batavia, St. Charles East faced a tougher challenge, with the visitors taking the dual by a 54-18 score. Despite the final margin, the Saints still produced several strong individual efforts and winning bouts that kept them competitive in stretches. Batavia’s ability to string together consecutive victories and capitalize on swing matches proved to be the difference in the team outcome.

Throughout the tri, the Saints showed resilience, bouncing back from tough individual results and responding with energy in the next weight class. The home lineup continued to seek scoring opportunities late in matches, fighting off their backs, working escapes and reversals, and looking for their own pinning combinations even when team scores were out of reach.

The mixed results offered St. Charles East a clear measuring stick as the season progresses. The decisive victory over St. Charles North underscored the Saints’ potential in dual competition, while the loss to Batavia provided valuable lessons in closing out close bouts and limiting bonus points. The team will look to build on the positives from the night as it prepares for the next stretch of the schedule and the upcoming postseason.
