Fighting Saints sweep West Chicago in straight sets

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | May 12, 2026

St. Charles East’s boys volleyball team opened the week with a crisp 25-19, 25-15 victory over West Chicago on Monday night, defending its home court at East, and keeping the momentum rolling late in the season. The Fighting Saints controlled the match from the start and delivered the kind of efficient straight-set win that gives the program plenty to celebrate heading into a key stretch.

The Saints took the opening set 25-19, building steady pressure and staying in command through the key rallies. They followed with an even stronger second set, closing out the Wildcats 25-15 to finish the sweep. While no individual statistics or player standouts were provided, the match summary pointed clearly to a balanced team effort and a confident performance at the net and on serve receive, with St. Charles East dictating the pace throughout the evening.

The result also reflected a strong night across the program. JV, Freshmen A and Freshmen B all added victories, giving the Fighting Saints community a full evening of success. That kind of across-the-board showing is the sort of boost programs hope for in May, when every match sharpens focus and builds confidence for the postseason ahead.

St. Charles East created separation in both sets and never let West Chicago mount enough of a push to turn the match into a late-set scramble.

Now the Saints turn quickly to their next test. St. Charles East will travel to South Elgin on Wednesday, May 13, to face the Red Storm in what serves as an early look at next week’s IHSA sectional quarterfinal matchup. That postseason meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m., back on the Saints’ home court, giving Monday’s win a little extra energy as the team moves deeper into the most important part of the season.
