Fighting Saints sweep Wheaton North behind big bats and a dominant start in the circle

St. Charles East delivered an emphatic DuKane Conference tune-up Tuesday, rolling past Wheaton North 10-0 in five innings in Game 1 before finishing the sweep with an 8-2 win in the nightcap. The decisive tone was set early in the opener, when the Fighting Saints paired timely hitting with shutdown pitching and never gave the Falcons room to settle in.

Game 1 belonged to a balanced Saints attack. Higgins and Majkszak each drove in two runs, helping St. Charles East build separation quickly and turn the game into a five-inning victory. The offense kept pressure on throughout the lineup, and the defense backed it up by keeping Wheaton North off the scoreboard. It was the kind of complete effort that has become familiar for a Saints team that continues to stack strong performances in every phase.

The second game brought another impressive response. After already taking one from the Falcons, the Saints came back with another sharp performance, this time leaning on Van Dinther in the circle. Van Dinther threw all seven innings and struck out nine, controlling the game with a steady, confident outing as Wheaton North managed just two runs. Every time the Falcons threatened, St. Charles East answered, either with an out in the field or another quality at-bat.

At the plate, the Saints kept the production flowing in Game 2. Beers, LaRose, Maple and Majkszak all turned in multi-hit games, powering an offense that continued to find barrels and create scoring chances. Maple supplied one of the biggest swings of the day with a home run, another highlight for a lineup that has produced all spring. The repeated traffic on the bases and the ability to cash in opportunities helped St. Charles East stay firmly in control of the nightcap.

Taken together, the doubleheader showed exactly why the Fighting Saints have built momentum this season. The bats were productive, the pitching was reliable and the team played clean, winning softball. From Higgins and Majkszak driving in runs in the opener to Van Dinther's seven-inning effort and the string of multi-hit performances in Game 2, St. Charles East had standout contributions across the roster.

Now the Saints turn the page to another important challenge. St. Charles East returns home today to face the North Stars in a major DuKane matchup, carrying with it the confidence of a road sweep and a lineup that looks every bit as dangerous as its recent results suggest.
