Fighting Saints Swim Edge Huntley 91-87 in Season-Opening Thriller
The St. Charles East Fighting Saints opened the 2026-27 season with a thrilling team victory Tuesday, edging Huntley 91-87 at Norris Pool at St. Charles East. The four-point win gave the Saints a memorable start to the new campaign and rewarded a complete effort in swimming, diving and relays.
St. Charles East and the visiting Red Raiders competed evenly throughout the dual meet, making every finish and every point important. The Saints continued to answer as Huntley kept the score tight, combining steady performances across the lineup with the composure needed in a season opener. That scoring depth allowed St. Charles East to remain in position for a victory as the meet moved toward its decisive races.
With the final result still unsettled, the dual came down to the last event of the evening. The Saints delivered under pressure, securing the points they needed to pull out the narrow win. The finish brought an energetic night at Norris Pool to a fitting conclusion and demonstrated the importance of contributions throughout the lineup, especially in a meet decided by only four points.
The victory offered an encouraging early measure of the program’s competitiveness. St. Charles East stayed composed through a back-and-forth meet, competed hard from the opening event through the final relay and finished the day with a 1-0 start.
St. Charles East will next compete at home on Saturday v Hinsdale South at 10 am.
