Fighting Saints top West Aurora 4-1 behind homers and dominant pitching

St. Charles East turned a strong Friday afternoon into another step forward in the early season, beating West Aurora 4-1 at home to improve to 3-1. The decisive blows came from Gavin Fuscone and Kyle LaRose, who each homered as the Fighting Saints backed up a sharp effort on the mound.

Nathan Moline set the tone from the start. The right-hander worked four innings, allowed just two hits and piled up nine strikeouts, giving the Saints exactly the kind of lift they needed. He kept West Aurora from finding any rhythm and helped St. Charles East control the game before turning it over to the bullpen.

At the plate, the Saints made their big swings count. Fuscone delivered one home run and LaRose added another, accounting for half of St. Charles East’s four runs and providing the kind of offensive spark that can change the feel of a game quickly. In a tight matchup, those extra-base hits created the separation the team needed.

LaRose then finished what the Saints started. After contributing offensively, he took over on the mound and earned the save with three strong innings. He allowed only one hit and struck out two, shutting the door on any late push from the Blackhawks and preserving the 4-1 win.

The result gave St. Charles East another encouraging performance on its home field at 1020 Dunham Rd. With timely power, clean run prevention and a dominant one-two pitching combination from Moline and LaRose, the Fighting Saints showed plenty to celebrate as the record moved to 3-1.
