Geurts Shoots 78 to Lead Saints and Advance to IHSA State Final
SAINT CHARLES, Ill. - St Charles East High School sent three Fighting Saints golfers to the IHSA Sectional on Monday, October 5, in West Dundee, with Emily Geurts leading the way with a 78 to advance to the IHSA State Final. Avery Szuch finished with an 88, and Ell Laster recorded a 92 as the Saints marked another postseason step with a state-qualifying performance.
Geurts delivered the lowest score among The Saints, finishing 10 strokes ahead of Szuch and 14 ahead of Laster. The 78 earned more than the team's best individual round of the day: It secured a place in the state final and extended Geurts' season into the final weekend of IHSA competition.
Szuch's 88 was the Saints' second-lowest score, four strokes ahead of Laster's 92. Together, the three individual rounds represented the Saints at the sectional, with each golfer having reached this stage of the postseason. The event began at 9:30 a.m. under clear skies, with a temperature of 59 degrees and winds of 5 mph.
We congratulate all our Saints on a great season, including the three golfers who carried the program into sectional competition. Their postseason accomplishments give the Saints plenty to celebrate, and we wish Geurts the very best of luck as the next challenge approaches. Geurts will represent the Saints at the IHSA State Final this weekend.
