Kapoor Powers St. Charles East Soccer Past Downers Grove North in 3-0 Victory
ST. CHARLES, Ill. - Aidan Richbell broke through late in the first half, and Huxley Kapoor delivered two second-half goals as St. Charles East earned a 3-0 victory over Downers Grove North on Thursday. The Fighting Saints turned Richbell’s opener into a complete team win, improving to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Richbell supplied the decisive moment with 32:32 showing in the first half. Kapoor created the opportunity and earned the assist as Richbell put St. Charles East in front 1-0. That advantage held through halftime, giving the Fighting Saints a reward for their first-half pressure and a strong position entering the final 40 minutes.
Kapoor moved from facilitator to finisher after the break. Carter Newell assisted Kapoor’s first goal of the match with 31:32 showing in the second half, doubling the St. Charles East lead to 2-0. Kapoor struck again with 18:16 remaining, this time finishing a chance set up by Will Wade to complete the scoring.
While the attack featured three goals and contributions from four players, goalkeeper Jason Striegel and the Fighting Saints’ defense made sure the advantage stood. Striegel played all 80 minutes, stopped both shots he faced and recorded a clean sheet. The organized defensive performance kept Downers Grove North off the scoreboard and allowed St. Charles East to build confidently on its halftime lead.
The victory continued an encouraging start for the Fighting Saints, who combined timely finishing, unselfish passing and dependable work in goal on a clear, 72-degree evening in St. Charles. St. Charles East will next face Hampshire at noon this Saturday at Norris Stadium.
