Saints answer Romeoville surge with six-run third, roll to 14-4 win

St. Charles East erased an early deficit with a six-run third inning and put the game away with another offensive burst in the fifth, beating Romeoville 14-4 in five innings Saturday at 1020 Dunham Rd.
The decisive stretch came after Romeoville grabbed a 4-2 lead on a two-run home run in the top of the third. The Fighting Saints answered immediately. James Feigleson opened the bottom half with a double, Gavin Fuscone worked a walk and Niko Vahmistrovs beat out a bunt to load the bases. Even after a fielder's choice and a strikeout left St. Charles East with two outs, the inning kept building. Emilio Gomez was hit by a pitch to force in a run, Antonio Perez drew a bases-loaded walk to tie it, Tyler Phillips lined a single to left to score two more, and Nathan Moline followed with a single that brought home Perez and Phillips for an 8-4 lead.
Romeoville had struck first in the opening inning. The Spartans used two walks, a passed ball and another passed ball to score twice, then added a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 edge. The Saints answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Feigleson reached on an infield error and scored on Fuscone's double to left-center. Fuscone then came home when Vahmistrovs reached on a throwing error by the Romeoville second baseman.
From there, St. Charles East kept the pressure on. Fuscone singled and later scored in the fourth when catcher Mason Daros delivered an RBI single to center, stretching the lead to 9-4. The Saints then finished the game with six consecutive hits in the fifth. Moline started the rally with a one-out double, Feigleson followed with his second double of the day, and Fuscone added his second double to make it 11-4. Vahmistrovs singled to left to score Fuscone, Chris Dazzo doubled home Vahmistrovs, and Daros scored on a wild pitch to end it at 14-4.
Fuscone led the offense, going 3-for-3 with four runs, two RBIs, a walk, two doubles and a stolen base. Feigleson finished 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and two doubles, while Moline went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Vahmistrovs added a 2-for-4 day with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases, Daros went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk, and Phillips drove in two runs. St. Charles East stole nine bases overall, with Sean Groselak swiping three.
On the mound, Danny Bremer settled in after a shaky start. Bremer worked three innings, allowed one hit and two earned runs, walked four and struck out one. His recovery mirrored the Saints' day as a whole. After falling behind twice, St. Charles East responded with its most complete offensive stretch of the afternoon and never gave the lead back.
