Saints Girls Golf Win DuKane Tri Behind Ramirez’s 40 and Geurts’ 41
St. Charles East claimed the top spot in Thursday’s DuKane Tri, combining steady play throughout the lineup for a winning team score of 182. The Saints finished four strokes ahead of Wheaton North, which posted a 186, while Glenbard North placed third with a 221 in Wheaton.
Paula Ramirez led the Saints with the lowest individual round of the match, carding a 40. Emily Geurts followed just one stroke behind with a 41, giving St. Charles East two strong scores at the front of its lineup and providing the foundation for the team victory.
Avery Szuch added a 50, and Ella Lester completed the Saints’ scoring with a 51. Their four rounds added up exactly to the team’s 182, reflecting the complete lineup effort required to finish ahead in a close competition with Wheaton North.
The margin remained narrow in the final standings, with only four strokes separating the Saints and Wheaton North. Ramirez’s low round and Geurts’ 41 proved especially valuable, while Szuch and Lester supplied the scores St. Charles East needed to stay in front of both DuKane Conference opponents.
The match began at 3:30 p.m. under partly cloudy skies, with the temperature around 80 degrees and winds at 9 mph. St. Charles East handled those conditions well, placing all four counting scores within an 11-stroke range and turning that balance into a first-place finish for The Saints.
