St. Charles East rolls past Glenbard North behind Fuscone, big third inning

St. Charles East broke the game open with an eight-run third inning and rode a dominant start from senior right-hander Gavin Fuscone to a 14-0 victory over Glenbard North on Tuesday in Game 2 of the conference series at 1020 Dunham Rd.
Fuscone set the tone from the first pitch and delivered the kind of outing the Saints needed. He worked all five innings in the shortened win, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out five. He needed only 50 pitches, 40 for strikes, and struck out three Panthers through the first two innings as St. Charles East kept Glenbard North from finding any rhythm at the plate.
The Saints grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second. Andrew Evans opened the inning with a single to right, and Chris Dazzo later drew a two-out walk. Kyle LaRose then drove a deep fly ball to center for a triple, bringing home Evans and Dazzo for a 2-0 advantage. Evans finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored, while Dazzo was one of two Saints, along with Niko Vahmistrovs, to score multiple runs.
St. Charles East did its heaviest damage an inning later. James Feigleson led off the third with his sixth double of the season and moved to third on Fuscone's groundout. Nate Moline singled over the third baseman's head to score Feigleson and make it 3-0. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt at third brought home two more runs, and Vahmistrovs followed with a double down the left-field line that scored courtesy runner Sean Groselak for a 6-0 lead. Later in the inning, Dylan McCabe and Fuscone each drew bases-loaded walks, and Moline capped the frame with a two-run single as the Saints surged ahead 10-0. Moline finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and one run scored.
The Saints added four more runs in the fourth. Mason Daros started the inning with a double down the right-field line, Vahmistrovs walked, and Dazzo reached on an infield single to load the bases for LaRose. The St. Charles East leadoff hitter delivered again, lining a double that scored Groselak and Vahmistrovs to push the lead to 13-0. Feigleson later brought in the final run on a fielder's choice groundout. LaRose turned in the biggest offensive line of the day, going 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, five RBIs and two runs scored.
The combination of efficient pitching and extra-base hitting carried the Fighting Saints throughout the afternoon. Fuscone also added an RBI in the win, while McCabe and Feigleson each drove in a run. For St. Charles East, the game featured the clean early pitching performance Fuscone had been seeking and an offense that kept pressure on Glenbard North from the second inning on.
The Saints' win improved their record to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in Dukane Conference play.
