St. Charles Girls Water Polo Building Momentum Early in Season

Darren Howard | St Charles East High School | Apr 10, 2026

St. Charles girls water polo team is showing the kind of identity that can make a season exciting to follow. The co-op team from East and North High Schools have opened the year with energy, resilience and the belief that there is still plenty ahead, even as they sit at 5-7. For a program still shaping its rhythm, that record tells only part of the story. The bigger picture is a team competing hard, getting production from key players and continuing to grow as the schedule moves forward.

That outlook was clear in the teams most recent matchup against Metea Valley. St. Charles came up short in a 9-7 decision, but the performance offered several encouraging signs. Ari Barone led the attack with four goals, giving the squad a dependable offensive spark, while Kaylee Waite added two more goals to keep the pressure on throughout the contest. Even in defeat, St. Charles showed the kind of scoring punch that can help it stay in games and challenge strong opponents.

The effort in goal also stood out. Isabela Silva recorded 10 saves against Metea Valley, a strong total that reflected both her activity in the cage and her importance to the team’s foundation. When a goalie is making that kind of impact, it gives a team a chance to settle in and compete possession by possession. For St. Charles, that combination of shot-stopping and timely scoring gives them pieces to build around as the season develops.

While the preseason picture is still coming into focus, St. Charles already has reason for optimism. Barone’s finishing ability, Waite’s support on offense and Silva’s presence in goal have given the teams standout performances to rally around. Just as important, the team appears to be carrying itself with the kind of persistence that can pay off over a long schedule. With more gameplay still ahead, the opportunity is there for St. Charles to sharpen their consistency and turn close outings into breakthrough wins.

The next test comes against Naperville Central, when St. Charles will look to carry that momentum into another challenging matchup. It is the kind of game that can reveal how much a team is growing from one outing to the next. For St. Charles, the season’s early chapter has already featured hustle, high-effort performances and flashes of what this group can become, and their next chance to show it comes against the Redhawks.
