Szerlong’s Hat Trick Powers Fighting Saints Soccer to 7-0 Win Over Sycamore

SAINT CHARLES, Ill. - Brendan Szerlong scored a hat trick as St Charles High School defeated Sycamore 7-0 on Thursday, Oct. 15, breaking open a one-goal match with six second-half goals.

Jack Fitzgerald supplied the assist for Szerlong’s opening goal with 20:42 remaining in the first half. That finish provided the only scoring before the break, with the Saints’ defense keeping Sycamore off the scoreboard to preserve a 1-0 halftime advantage.

The attack accelerated quickly after halftime. Huxley Kapoor set up Szerlong with 38:41 left, then Szerlong assisted Sam Arville at 30:32 to make it 3-0. Arville returned the favor at 29:09, providing the assist as Szerlong completed the hat trick. The Saints scored three times in the opening 10:51 of the second half.

Arville added a second goal off Kapoor’s second assist with 12:30 remaining. Alex Xolta converted a penalty kick at 10:20, and Anthony Sanfilippo finished the scoring off an assist from Alaa Dahab at 8:20. Four Saints scored, while five players contributed assists.

Szerlong finished with three goals and an assist, while Arville paired two goals with an assist in the seven-goal performance. The Saints’ conference record stands at 6-1-0. In goal, Jason Striegel played all 80 minutes and made three saves without allowing a goal to secure the shutout.
