Avon swimmers top Olmsted Falls but fall to Strongsville
Luke Lundgaard tied the school record in the 50-yard freestyle to highlight the performances of the Avon swim team Wednesday in a meet against Olmsted Falls and host Strongsville.
Lundgaard, a sophomore, finished with a time of 21.91 seconds while easily winning the event by more than two seconds. He also won the 100 free in 48.60 and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:43.94) with Tommy Lipowski, Gavin Bello and Sean Flanigan. Lungaard also combined with Ian Cibulskas, Flanigan and Bello to win the 200 free relay in 1:32.46.
Lipowski also won the 200 free (1:53.29) and the 100 breast (1:03.99), and Bello took first in the 100 butterfly (55.17) and was second in the 200 individual medley (2:11.10).
The Eagles easily defeated Olmsted Falls, 163-71, but the host Mustangs had too much depth for Avon, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season, 170-107.
On the girls side, the team results were similar, as the Eagles rolled past Olmsted Falls, 234-63, but fell to Strongsville, 164-146, Avon's first loss of the season.
Leading the way for the Eagles was senior Sierra Kobak, who won the 100 butterfly (1:01.37) and the 100 breast (1:09.25) and combined with Emma Molenaar, Leah Slivochka and Clare Blayney to win the 200 medley relay (1:58.55) and the 200 free relay (1:45.70).
Molenaar also won the 100 back (1:04.09), and Slivochka was second in the 50 free. Raelyn Laursen took second in the 200 individual medley (2:31.44) and was third in the 100 butterfly (1:11.26), while Michelle Smith was second in the 100 butterfly (1:10.41) and third in the 100 back (1:09.63).
