Boys lacrosse wins tight battle with Green, 16-15
Will Conley scored five goals—including the game-winner—and added an assist as host Avon came from behind to edge Green in boys lacrosse action Friday, 16-15. The Eagles are now 11-3 on the season.
Green held leads of 4-2 after one quarter and 10-8 at halftime, but Avon gained a 6-2 advantage in the third period to take a 14-12 lead entering the fourth. The Bulldogs fought back to within one, 15-14, with 2 minutes, 49 seconds to play, but, after an Avon timeout, Conley’s final goal put the game out of reach.
Fin Jerdonek added two goals and four assists for the Eagles, while Jace Barton had four goals. Jude Theibert had two goals and two assists for Avon, Evan Juergens added one goal and two assists, and Reece Zimmer and Graysen Metzger each had single goals.
Avon was recently voted the ninth seed in the Division I, Region 2 postseason tournament. The Eagles open the tournament on May 13 when they host No. 19 Boardman, a team they defeated, 15-1, on March 28. If victorious, Avon would then face No. 12 Strongsville on May 18. The Eagles opened the season on March 17 with an 11-8 victory over the visiting Mustangs.
