Eagles come from behind to edge North Ridgeville in five sets
For the second time this season, Avon’s volleyball team found itself down two sets to one to North Ridgeville before coming back to earn a five-set victory. In taking a 3-2 decision over the host Rangers Tuesday by the scores of 23-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 15-7, the Eagles upped their record to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in Southwestern Conference play.
Clare Freaney led the way for Avon with 26 kills. She was backed by Peyton Reinart with 11 kills and Lucy Lee with eight kills and two aces. Ally Brediger was a standout on defense for the Eagles with 25 digs and 39 serve receptions with just one error. Ava Jenkins added 11 digs and two aces for the Eagles, and Maryn Maxey had 10 digs. Madison Demmerle topped Avon with 26 assists and Lauren Bauer had 13.
Next on the schedule for Avon is a conference showdown at Olmsted Falls, which is 11-2 on the season. The Eagles swept the Bulldogs about a month ago, but Falls hasn’t lost since and currently stands atop the SWC standings at 6-1 while riding a nine-match winning streak.
