Visiting Avon had more hitting errors than kills Thursday in dropping a 3-1 decision to Southwestern Conference foe Midview by the scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-19 and 25-23.

It was the first loss in the SWC in nearly two years, as the Eagles went undefeated in conference play last year on the way to winning the Division II state championship. The last conference loss came on October 10, 2024, at the hands of Avon Lake. However, Avon still won the conference title that year and the Eagles still sit atop the standings this year, tied with three other teams with one loss each.

Avon, 5-2 overall and 3-1 in conference action, was led by Ellie Husk with 11 kills. She was backed by Peyton Reinart with nine kills, Julia Majerus with eight and Aria Barbera with seven. However, the Eagles had 41 kills as opposed to 42 hitting errors, which makes it difficult to end up with a victory.

Ally Brediger led Avon with 23 digs, while Madison Demmerle had 19 assists and Janelle Antrum had 14. Addy Smith led the way with three of Avon’s 11 aces, and Lucy Lee topped the Eagles with four solo blocks.

Next on the schedule for Avon is an SWC match at Amherst on September 10.
