Eagles open postseason with thrashing of Warren Harding
Hoping to make a return trip to the Division II Final Four in Dayton, the Avon Eagles began their postseason journey Monday with a sweep of visiting Warren Harding, 25-5, 25-9, 25-6, in a district semifinal. Lily Hamilton led the way for the 22-1 Eagles with 10 kills, 12 assists and two aces. Londyn Stone added five kills, seven digs and three aces in just two sets of action, and Bethany Sherwood had eight kills. Madison Demmerle led Avon with 16 assists, and Caroline Busold topped the Eagles with 10 digs. Avon also had 13 aces as a team, led by Stone with three, and Hamilton, Ally Brediger, Kara Hricovec and Demmerle with two each. Next up for the Eagles is a district final matchup at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Berea-Midpark against Eastlake North. The Rangers, 9-13, defeated Akron Firestone in their district semifinal, 25-13, 25-16, 25-7.
