Eagles sweep Amherst in Southwestern Conference volleyball
Avon’s volleyball team got back on the winning track Tuesday, sweeping past visiting Amherst in Southwestern Conference action. In upping their record to 9-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play, the Eagles got a bit of revenge on the Comets, who defeated Avon earlier in the season.
Peyton Reinart led the way for the Eagles with 15 kills and five blocks. Lucy Lee added 12 kills and an ace, and Clare Freaney had 10 kills. Ally Brediger topped Avon with 18 digs, and Maryn Maxey had 17 digs and an ace. Madison Demmerle led the way with 22 assists, and Lauren Bauer had 17.
A big factor in the victory was a marked improvement in receiving serves. In a four-set loss to Olmsted Falls last week, the Eagles had 12 errors on serve receive. Against Amherst they had only two.
Avon will travel to Berea-Midpark Thursday for a match between teams that both have three losses in SWC play.
