Eagles sweep Berea-Midpark, look forward to big weekend quad
It is fitting that the seniors led the way once again for the Avon volleyball team, as Tuesday’s sweep of visiting Berea-Midpark was designated Senior Night. The Eagles, 14-0 overall and 10-0 in Southwestern Conference play, were led in each statistical category by a 12th-grader. In winning by the scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-12, Avon was led by Lily Hamilton with 15 assists, 10 kills and four aces. Londyn Stone added 14 kills and Bethany Sherwood had nine. In addition, Caroline Busold had 10 digs and three aces and Kaitlyn Pojman had 16 assists. The Eagles, who are ranked third in the state in Division II in the latest state coaches poll, will travel to Perrysburg Saturday for a high-powered quad with teams that have a combined record of 34-8. Perrysburg, ranked No. 6 in Division I, is 11-4, with two of the losses coming at the hands of Whitehouse Anthony Wayne, which is the top-ranked team in Division II, and one coming to Magnificat, which is ranked second in DII. The other two teams in the quad are Millbury Lake, which is currently 12-2, and Findlay Liberty-Benton, a Division V powerhouse that won state titles in 2019 and 2021 and sports a record of 11-2.
